How many times did my roommates allow me to leave my dorm dressed in my black trench coat and black, tall rain boots? The answer is more than once, which means too many times. It took me a while (and several terrified looks) before I understood that I looked like I was dressed for "official police business."
At least I wasn't wearing a hat.
Here's a tip to avoid looking like an SS Officer: if you're going to do the trench coat/boot combo, do it in colors other than black. Especially if you're German.
